High five? Sod that – big tens!

July 29th, 2010

Every now and then we all have down days, where things simply don’t seem to go our wayn…. well today, was not one of those days =D A cycle to work, more direct and clear than the first journey a few days back, I was on fire! … not literally, but it was hot out and the cycle back was surprisingly smooth. Motorists are aggresive as ever but there’s a certain vibe about cycling that feels so free and right.

Gym today was back, biceps and neck, a rushed workout but pretty intense and maybe I’m just an optimist, but I’m sure resutls are already occuring. Tomorrows a friday, saturdays a night out and sundays most likely a lie in… I’ve been a good boy this week, I deserve a lie in. Knees have taken a battering with the cycling and legs workouts, but I’ma take car of ‘em this weekend, dancing a social, they’ll love it.

Till tomorrow!

At least it should do, paying out of the ass for Oyster season tickets clearly isn’t enough to halt the continued poor service, but enough of complaining about that when there’s good news to report: Another sweet day of training. Bringing food into work is definitely working out for me, today being rice, chicken, tomato and topped with cheese… all cooked the day before and being the exact same meal I had for dinner. Hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? Am out of protein powder, a restock due on Friday.

Todays workout was a rushed Legs and Abs gig, doing Leg Press, Seated extensions, Squats (albeit with a measly 35kg barbell). Abs was tougher, doing compass squats (will explain these in another post), leg raises and the plank… never had strong abs, as proved by dying 3.5 times during a 15 rep set of crunches. Tomorrows another cycle ride to work and back, with a back, biceps and neck workout at lunch. I’ll be uploaded by gym routine spreadsheet in the coming days.. with weekly records uploaded for your viewing pleasure.

Am currently cutting, am far from muscular at present… but my on-off gymming over the past few years (more off than off unfortunately), has left me in ‘good shape’, but I’m greedy and going for gold. So I’m stripping the fat off me, trying to get near six pack level, before a real gradual bulk begins, follow me!

Cycling Ends!

After Mondays 24 mile round trip, today I opted for the train and oh TFL, the only positive thing I say about you is that you’re consistent. Not such a good thing when it’s daily train delays but as long as I get my seat then all is good with the world. So today was a Chest, Tricep and Shoulder workout, with 30kg dumbells for the chest press and 20kg Arnold press… a fairly decent workout compared to my recent visits.

Made a friend today, while queing for the shower… nothing but a towel between us. His towel was a lot bigger than mine.

Tomorrow another day of training it in, aiming for a legs and abs workout at lunchtime… fun times!

Cycling Begins!

A quick note: This section of the blog will be even lower than my current standard of articles. It has no intended reader and has the single purpose of helping me hold myself accountable, detailing my continued journey into fitness. I will record here my daily fitness from today till the day I pass the baton onto the next generation of fitness fanatics. But this is my time, and I’m here to show you all how it’s done – after all, does greatness have any meaning if it can’t be seen? In all seriousness, my daily notes may inform and educate, and if it inspires just one person to keep going… I’ll feel like making this public has been worthwhile. So without further delay, let’s hit the road:

Today was my first commute to work by bicycle in over a year, to a new work place 12 miles from where I live, right through the rush hour traffic. My legs were beginning to ache, the rain began to gently pour and my bike was rattling away but it felt amazing, definitely going to see how long I can keep this up for. The journey back home was murder, covering 24 miles in a day delivers a nice sense of achievement. For those wondering how I travel… the bike is a ‘Trek’ mountain bike, huge wheels, heavy frame, no helmet, no cycling shorts… but lovely gloves, gotta keep those hands soft right?

Also hit the gym during lunch, an all body workout with the intention of taking it easy after 10 days away from the gym after hurting my back during dumbell raises. The ‘taking it easy’ lasting the best part of 10 minutes till it turned into a relatively hardcore back, biceps and neck workout. Eating was sweet, tuna and chicken filled my day, and my belly. Great start, bring on tomorrow.
